Working on my Woman Cave Part 2 + $100 giveaway / by Erin Baynham

In part one of this series, I showed you how I created a workable office area in my favorite room, Scandalous Beauty headquarters. My makeup room/ office oasis is my place of zen. When my stomach is in knots and I’m in a crappy mood, this is the place that makes me the happiest. I swatch products of my hands, draft posts or throw on a movie. After that, all is right in the world! This room is a place of optimism for me. See, I’m planning on opening a small business later in the year, and this room has to provide comfort, productivity and energy at the same time.

My co-worker, Jacqueline, is an interior designer with fantastic taste. We’ll be working together soon on a full remodel, but until then, it’s time for some minor projects. I’ve got this drawer system that has turned into a cluttered tabletop. I threw my brushes and fragrances there, but I’m realizing it would work best as an open white space for product photography.

I bought glass shelving from Ikea, and let me tell you—this wasn’t a one person job. Let me start off by saying that I’m not that great at installing hardware and things of prominence in a room. This is a project that I tried to tackle by myself, and that was just way too challenging. Trying to hold a screw, a screw gun, a shelf bracket and a level at the same time just wasn’t working. Aha! Two sets of hands are better than one, my friends. I called my husband in, and he was a huge help in putting these up. My husband has been a huge help getting them up. For better or worse, right?

After about an hour of dropping screws, trying to find the center point of the level, and having intense arm burning from holding the shelves, we finished! I’ve got brushes on the bottom row, and on top, there is a wedding picture and a few of my favorite fragrances.

I’d like to add a coat rack for my handbags and mountains of tote bags. I’m also planning to do a small photo wall and add a longer set of shelves over the desk. It’s really exciting to see the room come together!
