Day 15: Use Social Media to Get Blog Readers--25 Days To A Better Beauty and Fashion Blog Challenge #SBBC / by Erin Baynham

This post is part of the Scandalous Beauty 25 Days To A Better Beauty And Fashion Blog Challenge! For even more tips, be sure to check out Erin's Guide to Better Beauty Blogging. We know the big two when it comes to social media--Twitter and Facebook. If you want to get serious about blogging, growing your readership and building a brand, you have to interact with people. Hoping to interact solely on your blog isn't going to be enough. Here are a few tips.

1. Connect your social media accounts. You can make your tweet go automatically to your facebook status. I prefer not to do this all the time, but have in the past. It can get redundant.

2. Use a desktop agent. I'm a fan of Tweetdeck on my laptop. This way, you can click several of your profiles and send the same message using all of them. It's much easier to keep up with Twitter for me here. I check Facebook manually.

3. Have posts go automatically to your accounts. The only con is not being able to post custom info to connect to whom you are talking about. For instance, if I do a post that's called "Get the Look: Sanaa Lathan wearing Red Lip by Lancome and Foundation by Make Up For Ever", that's how it will post to Twitter. If you post it on your own, you could 'mention' those people/brands by saying " Get the Look: Sanaa Lathan (@justsanaa) Wearing Red Lips by @LancomeParis and @MAKEUPFOREVERUS Foundation". Now, all of the companies are notified that you've talked about them.

4. Use hashtags! On twitter, people use hashtags ( the '#' sign, directly followed by a word) to search or categorize by topic. For instance, I started the hashtag #makeupchat so we could talk about makeup and have organized chat sessions. If people have a makeup related tweet, we can see it and follow along by clicking it.

These are very basic social media tips, but the strategy can be far more complicated! If you'd like more information, do a google search. You'll be reading for hours. Tomorrow, we'll discuss Tumblr for more page views!
