Day 11: Creating a Blog Schedule--25 Days To A Better Beauty and Fashion Blog Challenge #SBBC
This post is part of the Scandalous Beauty 25 Days To A Better Beauty And Fashion Blog Challenge! For even more tips, be sure to check out Erin's Guide to Better Beauty Blogging. I've spent probably 5 hours of my life trying to figure out how to schedule posts. I've created series and times they should go live and all kinds of things. I figured I could write them over the weekend and then have them go up throughout the week. If I were good at sticking to schedules, this would work wonders for me.
Lets get something straight--it's perfectly fine to post everyday, once a week or every few weeks. There is no blog police that's going to fine you. I've had the syndrome where I've compared myself to others...and it's stupid. Really freaking stupid. It doesn't feel stupid while doing it, but what works for everyone else may not work for you. You can't let others' success (or perception of success) define your own.
To that end, it's a great idea to create a schedule. It's a way to keep you on track, and keep you up and at 'em. If you have a series that happens once a week, or once every two weeks, you have a strategy that will keep you (and your readers) alert. For example, I love to create content on the weekends. It's my time to chill out, write, make videos and take as many pictures as humanly possible. If I don't get everything done then, I like to post early in the morning before work, between 6-8am.
If you're a fashion blogger, maybe you'll post entire 'outfit of the day' entries once a week, or only on Mondays. This gives you the rest of the week (or whatever days you choose) to do your other posts. Maybe you can do a bracelet series and just post about them on Thursdays. Again, there is no right or wrong here. For beauty, maybe you'll do reviews on one day, then a 'face of the day' another day. Whatever works for you.
Here are a couple of tips and products that might help:
- If you're looking for something to assist your blog planning, Terra Black created The Editor. It includes calendars, weekly post managers, list pages, space for notes, and all kinds of other helpful tips for bloggers.
- I use the Wordpress Calendar plugin. It's a monthly calendar that actually places your posts on the day that they will go live--great visual tool.
- Announce your schedule. Once it's up and your readers expect it, it pushes you harder to stick to it.
Tomorrow, we'll discuss business cards for your blog! I'll be showing examples of business cards from other bloggers. If you are a blogger that has a business card, shoot an image of it to scandalousbeautyonline@gmail.com. Thanks! : )
